Dear Kathleen,

Thank you for your response,

Unfortunately, Oscar died Sunday night. His necropsy showed he died from complications of pneumonia, along with necrotic intestines and kidney failure. I could not revive him. Our hearts are broken.

He was never cross with us unless we digressed severely, and then, his rebuke was subtle, and never angry. We always knew when he was upset with us, and tried our best to atone for our humanness. He loved to be around people and to get attention, but didn't need to be the center of it to enjoy the moment. He loved his home and family, and treated everything with respect. He always carried himself with dignity and honor.

He was the best kid that anyone could hope for, and he was loved with all our hearts, and we knew he loved us the same. Our lives will never be the same, or complete without him.

I know God will care for him until we can be there with him, as God created a very special being in Oscar. I can only hope to honor his memory for the rest of my life by carrying the lessons Oscar taught me.
He had bladder and kidney infections through most of his short life. We knew his weight was a problem, but by the time we tried to control his weight gain, he was already overweight which, of course, was a severe problem to his recovery. His weight gain started after his neutering - it only took about four months before he was severely overweight. His joints began to suffer badly this year, limiting his mobility, which in turn, made him more sedate - perpetuating his weight problem.

Our attempts at weight loss did not work, combined with the added complication that we could not feed him vegetables and greens because of the crystal problem with his bladder. He was "dieting" for more than a year when he died.

We knew too late that the best way to control obesity in our pig is to stop it before it happens, and our little boy suffered for it.

Let that be a warning to all with pet pigs - it can get out of control quickly.

His heart was strong to the end, which we already knew just from knowing him.

Thank you again for your help. And thank you for being a source of information for all pig owners. Information for our little friends is hard to find.

Respectfully,

Tony Verrilli

Hi Kathleen,

I wanted to thank you for posting my boyfriend's letter regarding our baby Oscar. I have attached a couple pictures of him.

We have since gotten back more information as to why he is no longer with us. During the necropsy our vet took tissue samples per our request, and had them evaluated. Oscar died from Septic Arthritis, complications of pneumonia, along with necrotic intestines and necrotic kidneys. This explains why Oscar's joints were severely dry and his stomach was severely bloated.

We have since had Oscar cremated, and have brought him home. We both think of him constantly. Our hearts are completely broken. He was our little boy.

Oscar was my best friend, and will be forever. I will never get over what has happened, but I am so grateful that he no longer has to suffer. Luckily, he only showed pain for his last two days. I'm sure that his pain must have lasted much longer, but he didn't let it show. You would have never known how horribly sick he was, because he was just the happiest little boy in the world. He could always make me smile. He still does. I love and miss him so much. I will miss my baby forever.

I am greatful that I was not working during Oscar's last seven months. I was able to spend the entire time at home with him. We would sleep together each night. He liked to cuddle. He also enjoyed sleeping in late every morning. I am completely lost without him.

I don't know if the tears will ever subside. All I do know is that I was the luckiest Mom in the world for having Oscar in my life for 2 years.

Sincerely,
Dawn Midgley

Kathleen
